Are you Natural or Transitioning?

Natural

How long natural or how deep into your transition?

I cut off all my hair September 30th 2009

If natural: Tell us about your transition (if any)

I originally planned to transition for six months but after about a month in a half I gave in.

What made you decide to go natural?

I usually like to wear my hair in curlier styles so I used to do braid outs and pin curls all the time, then one day I went swimming with one of my good friends and when she got her hair wet it got really curly. I was so surprised and starting asking all these questions, and she started explaining to me about natural hair. A week after that my aunt introduced me to LHCF and I was hooked. Seen all these beautiful women with natural hair and just cut mine off.

What is your hair type/texture/density?

I like to say I’m 4somthing. Some parts look like 4a some 4b and some I have no clue. Its just really thick with tiny curls.

What is your haircare regimen?

I wash and deep condition my hair once a week, most likely on Sunday and put it in a protective style. I don’t use heat at all so I just detangle and twist or braid my hair when it is wet and I let it airdry. I moisturize my hair everyday with my water and glycerin mix and seal it with my shea butter and coconut oil mix. I try to keep it simple because I’ve been getting some good growth and retention this way.

What are your hair goals?

I really just want to grow my hair as long as I could without locking it. I have so many people who are non-believers and I want to teach them something new……and prove them wrong lol

What is your go-to style?

I love twists. My hair isn’t really that long yet but I love to just put in some twists and style them.

What have you tried that works well for your hair?

I must keep it moisturized. I love the feeling of water on my hair and was addicted to co-washing at first, but it became to much as my hair got longer.

What have you tried that works terribly for your hair?

I found out very early on that my hair is protein sensitive. I do need some protein for my hair every now and then but  not to much or else my hair will get really hard and start to break.

What have you learned about handling your natural hair?

I may be one of the few people who think my natural hair is easier for me to care for. It may be because I’ve learned so many new techniques but wash days are so much better.

What is your number one favorite product?

I would say shea butter, it keeps my hair so moisturized its crazy! I try to mix it with different things but without my shea butter my hair is DRY

What are you looking forward to with regard to your hair?

I just can’t wait to have a waist length twist out. I still have a long way for that but once I get there I don’t know what I will do next. But I am having fun growing it and enjoying it in it’s different stages/lengths.

Do you intend on staying natural forever?

Yes

What are the pros / cons of being natural in your opinion?

I think the only thing I don’t like is the single strand knots, so I try to keep my hair stretched most of the time.

I love the fact that I can straighten my hair if I want the straight look.
I can wash my hair whenever
I don’t have to worry about scratching before a relaxer
Styling for me is a breeze. (I can be ready for anything in like 10 min)
And so many other things I can go on and on

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Going natural has helped my confidence in so many ways. It helps me embrace myself truly and not care what other people think.

Also I love when people come to me for advice after seeing how great my hair is looking and I love helping people start there healthy hair journey.
