My Mom Can Cornbraid!?

Sooo….I have a very vivid memory of me at say…14 or so, asking my mom to cornbraid my hair and her telling me she didn’t know how.   I would always go to my aunts, or a salon for cornrows when I was a kid and teenager.

I’m at my parents’ house last weekend and I said dag mommy I wish you could cornbraid so I could get two fat braids right now.

She looked at me like I was insane and said “what you talkin bout? I can cornbraid!! I used to do it all the time when I was a girl!”

Now, this totally blew my mind for some reason.  I ran to the bathroom and washed my hair and my mom went to town.  She prefaced the session with “now…it’s been a long time….”  (at least 30 years!!) And i was instantly worried LOL

It was cute watching her in the mirror putting on her serious concentratey face trying to get the braids just right.

I can’t believe for almost 30 years I didn’t know my mom could do this.

Anywaaaay… here is her handiwork:

I loved it!!

Thanks Mommy :)

  1. Gorgeous!
I wish my Mom knew how to do that!!! When I do them on myself, they always come out weird because I can only overbraid on one side and underbraid on the other. :(

  2. i love your hair so long and thick i wish my natural looked this good in cornrows

  3. I’m currently on a quest to grow out my hair to waist length. I’m early in the game at shoulder length when pressed. This style is currently my protective style. It works better for me since my hair always got dry in twists no matter how much I wet em. Plus the baby doesn’t pull my hair when it’s like this either O_o. Love this look and love ur site!!! Congrats on ur own bundle of joy, too.
