Hi!
Thanks for stopping by!
I’m simply a woman who loves natural, healthy hair and wants to help others grow their own.
This is my haircare blog, I also have a lifestyle/mommy blog.
My name is Dani and I am a blogger, vlogger, wellness/lifestyle coach, and total natural hair addict. I live in the NYC area with my husband and my new baby boy. I love reading, writing, styling, and thinking about HAIR!
My last texlax was August 2007. I transitioned for 22 months by doing lots of braidouts/twistouts/buns/wash n gos, and as of July 2009 I have been 100% natural! My transition is detailed here on the blog. I love long hair and want to grow mine as long as possible…however…I always end up cutting it! I have donated my hair to wigs for kids, and this year I plan on cutting to donate again.
This blog chronicles my hair journey, and also highlights beautiful heads of hair as inspiration. I have articles on transitioning and maintaining long healthy natural hair, hair care tips, and product reviews.
I’m in love with my hair and I want to help other women feel the same way!

HELP!
My name is Nikki and I have been inhaling every bit of your blog. I am currently in the beginning stages of transitioning my hair from relaxer to natural and I’m literally ready to pull my hair out. I don’t have any friends or family members who are natural and not quite sure who to turn to for advice.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Nikki
Hi, my name is Danielle Brown and I love your blog and I think I’ve read all of your posts (no lie!). I’m writing a feature story about “black women who hate their natural hair” and I would love to ask you a few questions (by email) and I would love to feature you for this article. Please let me know if this is something that you would like to work with me on.
I would like to work w/ u on this subject. I would’t really say that I HATE my natural hair but at times I am unhappy with my hair (natuarl or relaxed. at current I’m natural i did a big chop about 2wks ago. I did a big chop in April/2009. I had shoulder length (when straight) natural and last summer I went to a hairdresser and ask for a texturizer to just LOOSEN UP the curls. I also informed them that i still wanted the KINKYNESS. Well needless to say I left the shop w/ a RELAXER. That was the beginning of my down fall. I didn’t take the x-tra care that was needed which led to another big chop a yr later. I have now come to realize that relaxers/chemicals aren’t for me.
i stumbled upon your site and i looooove it, i want to know if you would not mind me linking my site to yours? please let me know, i am also bookmarking your site for later, so much good info here,
thanks in advance
i’ve worn my natural hair before so this is my 4th time “transitioning” (growing my relaxer out until my natural hair is long enough for me to cut the relaxed hair off) I had dreadlocks for 3 years and I’ve had the afro before for a while so i’m not new to this B-U-T this time my plan/goal is to STAY all natural and never chemically straighten my hair again.
I came to this decision because right now my hair is extremely damaged and has fallen out and thinned. It is weak and last month when i got my last relaxer my scalp was badly burned and it was painful. That’s when i decided to go back to my natural, chemical-free God-given hair.
If i ever want to wear my hair straight again i’ll just get it blowdried and/or flat-ironed. My natural hair is VERY thick and it’s curly but the texture is not hard and it grows fast. I want to grow it for 12 months before i do the big cut and chop off my relaxed hair.
My question is: What natural hair care products do you personally recommend? I want my hair to be healthy, strong, soft and moisturized.
I just ordered Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk shampoo and Hair Milk curl definer for myself and my daughter. My daughter is 1/2 hispanic and her hair is curly/wavy and natural. I already use extra virgin olive oil on our hair instead of hair grease.
Hello,
I have relaxed hair which is past my bra strap. I just really learned what works for my hair and what does not. My hair has always been long but never this healthy.
My dilemma is that I want natural hair. I love the feel of my new grow. The curl pattern is chaotic however. How long did you grow your hair out before the big chop?
Hi Danielle!
I found your blog through friends linking to an article… wonderful! The big braids your mom did a little while ago, I often do on my girls for a summer style.
I thought I would send you a note and see if you would like to review the sleep caps I sell on your blog. If so, I’d be happy to send you one, gratis.
My sleep caps are made of swimsuit material, and my customers find them invaluable for preserving braids and avoiding tangles in natural hair.
Please let me know if you are interested – simply email me your snail-mail address and I’ll send you a sleep cap for review. I appreciate your consideration! I would love to break into the adult market… my very small business currently focuses on children, but the caps work equally as well for adults.
My best!

In 2002 I decided to “Go Natural” and stop getting relaxers. For the first year, I cried and had a fit and would BEG my beautician to give me a relaxer, she REFUSED, she said I made a committment and she would make sure I stuck to it. Booo to her!
I am now willing to admit, it was the BEST decision I ever made! I have now been relaxer free for 10 years. My hair has grown far beyond what I would EVER imagine, I dont even remember it being this long when I was a child. I am now on the hunt for the best hair products for my natural hair. As I’ve gotten older, it’s thinned and is very light weight, so I really need products to thicken it and give it a hold. Any one else having this problem?
Hi All! My daughter had natural hair and I will admit I have struggled but love taking care of it. I love this site and I am always seeking new info for improving my girl’s hair! Thanks so much! I started making both charmeuse and raw silk pillowcases for her hair last year and then brancked into sleep scarves. I have noticed they greatly improve her hair and reduce the dry brittle damage I was seeing from sleeping on cotton at night. Thanks for the great tips!
